‘Subak’ Is Acknowledged As A World Heritage
Denpasar, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) had just approved ‘Subak’, a traditional irrigation system developed by the Balinese as a world heritage.
According to Indonesian Vice Minister of Education and Culture, Windu Nuryati, the effort to make ‘Subak’ to be part of the world heritages had been going on for the past 12 years. “Another good news has come to Indonesia because at last UNESCO confirmed that our ‘Subak’ in Bali will be part of the many pre-existed world heritages,” she said on Sunday (20/5).
The decision to include ‘Subak’ to be part of the world heritage was first discussed at UNESCO’s conference in St. Pittsburg in June 2012. Since then, Government and the communities involved tried even harder to get the acknowledgement from the international body.
